A very good and clever mourning picture dated 1851 that features a silhouette of Napoleon created by the two larger trees on the right. It measures 14 1/4" x 10 3/4". The frame, glass and velvet matting apear to be original. The text reads "The Shade of Napoleon Bonapartte painted for Miss Jenny Caruthers by her friend Mary Marsh Oct 10th AD 1851. It is in overall very good condition with the expected yellowing to the paper. The paper has been sewed onto the backing material which is some kind of thick paper.
