A fine oil on board painting by the artist Agapit Stevens (1849-1917). The subject is of a young woman in a garden who has dropped her fan to admire a butterfly. It measures 20" x 13 3/4", the frame is 24" x 17.5". The painting is in very good overall condition but there are three small areas where the paint has chipped, luckily they are background areas. Someone filled one of the chips in with some sort of white paint(see pic). It is clearly signed in the lower right hand corner. The frame looks fairly new. There is a label on the back for a Philadelphia gallery that looks to be quite old.
