A wonderful mid 18th century engraving of a work by the well known artist Giuseppe Zocchi (1711-1767).Zocchi has been called the Piranesi of Florence. His views of Tuscany have been equaled by no other artist. Different copper engravers in various workshops have etched these prints. The current print is signed "Io. Sebaft Muller Norimb" The print measures 18.3" x 26.4". It is in very good condition with four small tears to the border(none enter the engraved field) and the print has been cleaned(foxing is still evident when one holds the piece to the light but the piece will look wonderful framed), there is also a small rust colored dot that did not come out in the cleaning. It is unmounted and ready for framimg. The scene shows a reenactment of the ancient Roman chariot races in the Piazza di Santa Maria Novella. This piece has tremendous detail and wonderful genre scenes.
